How to remove contact lenses

Inserting your contact lenses was easier than you expected, and now removing them is just as easy! Our resident optician has helped us develop this practical and easy to follow step-by-step guide to removing your contact lenses from your eyes.

  • Step 1

Step 1: Thoroughly wash and dry your hands

Always remember to wash and dry your hands before touching your eyes or handling your contact lenses to avoid water contacting your lens and also to avoid the potential for harmful substances entering your eye.

If you wear extended wear or continuous wear contact lenses, be sure to have your contact lens case nearby ready with multipurpose solution so that you can easily store your contact lenses once you remove them from your eyes. To avoid mixing your lenses, be sure to start with the same eye every time.

  • Step 2

Step 2: Use the applying hand to pull down your lower eyelid and hold up your upper eyelid to your eyebrow with your other hand

With your hands now clean and ready for handling your contact lenses and your eyes, pull down your lower eyelid with the middle and ring fingers of your applying hand while holding up your upper eyelid up to your eyebrow with your other hand.

  • Step 3

Step 3: Use your thumb and index finger to gently pinch the contact lens

Carefully place your thumb on one side of the contact lens and your index finger on the other side, allowing you to smoothly pinch it off.

  • Step 4

Step 4: Look up and gently pull down the contact lens

Once you lightly pinch the lens, look up and gently pull down the contact lens onto the white part of your eye and then away from your eye until it is completely removed. Repeats steps 1 to 3 for the other eye.
